My Methods of Teaching Experience

We just had the pleasure of participating and graduating from Mrs. Shuler’s 21st Methods of Teaching class. This is a class that current cosmetology, esthetics, and nail professionals attend and complete for a chance to test with SC State Board to become a licensed instructor in their field of study. This class completely prepares you for how to become an effective teacher and instructor. Not only did Mrs. Shuler (and Mrs. Barbara) teach us how to run a classroom, they also spent a great deal of time on how to create effective lesson plans for all types of learners in your classroom. We created lesson plans that included visual aids and were able to share them with the rest of the class to get their feedback as well.

It was a 45 hour course that took 3 weekends to complete. As tiring as it can be, with homework every night, it was well worth the time spent. They shared some very entertaining classroom energizers to keep our attention going just as we would do with our own students. We realized that we sometimes just had to “Let it Go” and move on with each other and with our plans for the day!

I, personally, am not going to be going to state board to become an instructor. I am currently the Director of our Kenneth Shuler School on St. Andrews Rd. I had the pleasure of taking this class with 3 of my peers and corporate staff. We were invited to attend so we could fully understand how all of our instructors are trained and to have better clarification on what their day-to-day life entails. To see the ups and downs they have to face and the work that goes into lesson planning and execution was amazing. It was also great to be able to share a learning environment with so many diverse backgrounds all coming together for the same common goal. I know we all really enjoyed our time with each other and I look forward to seeing all of my classmates become licensed instructors. I know they will all be very successful in their careers!
